What are missions?
Missions are mandatory threads where characters try to follow instructions from a Team leader in order to complete tasks and goals. Some of these may tie into group-wide plots, others will be stand-alone plots. Some may take multiple threads to complete.
The instructions will be posted in the 'Missions' board and will list the characters (or teams/groups) involved in the mission, as well as the overall goal(s) of the mission. Depending on the nature of the mission, the info post may also list a breakdown of individual tasks/thread requirements, and even possible outcomes. From there, a roleplay thread will be started to begin the plot. Additional information may also be posted in the RP thread itself.
Some missions may have multiple possible outcomes that may be influenced by players’ choices, dice rolling, or characters’ stats. These will sometimes be specified in the mission’s information posts, other times a Mod may intervene in an RP thread to facilitate this. This changes the pace of general roleplaying, and draws in aspects from tabletop gaming and choose-your-own-ending games.
Some missions will be created by moderators for members to roleplay; other missions may be created by members for other members with moderator approval.
- New missions are to be provided to members on a monthly basis to keep things fresh, and to keep plots moving forward. This is dependent on how long it takes members to complete missions; the idea is to have approximately each character involved in a mission each month.
- Each mission will be numbered so there is no confusion. Early missions are considered 'Beta' and may be numbered below #1, since we are getting used to the general format and warming up to the main plots.
- The info thread that announces the mission will be periodically updated to provide links to all threads involved, the current status of the mission, etc. This will be posted in the Mission subboard.
-Actual roleplaying of a Mission will be done in subboards based on location of the thread (like regular threads). When the Mission thread is completed, it will be moved to the specific Mission subboard for archival purposes.
- Some missions will be overseen by moderators to provide new information or to help facilitate the next steps role players need to take (either by directly posting in the RP thread or by updating the original mission info post), or moderators may play a NPC to help with either. This means a moderator may respond in the middle of a mission thread to post new information or to play a NPC.
- Certain missions will be available to those who choose to take on the thread, as opposed to people being assigned to it.
- Some missions may contain obstacles that also have stats, and need to either be battled or overcome with dice-rolling.
- Mission threads should be titled ‘Mission [number here]- [original title here].
- Many missions are completely planned out by moderators, including multiple outcomes. However, other missions may be more loosely planned and depend more on the roleplayers than pre-planned plot.
