ROLEPLAY SPECIFICS
General
-Members are to be 18+, meaning that there are opportunities to explore mature themes (violence, sexual, etc.) if desired. However, sexual themes are not the primary focus of this group, as we are plot driven. Please respect the adults of this group and do not join if you are underage.
-We are a closed group, meaning that any canon that develops needs to take place between members of this group. This should be easier to manage now that we've moved to a forum format, but this serves as a general reminder that any previously established canons or headcanons from other roleplays, groups, or partners does not necessarily apply to this group (even though many of us have been previous roleplay partners). However, anything from this group that was roleplayed originally on Tumblr is still canon to the group here.
- We will be having group-wide plots. Most will be required of all/most members, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Some are in the form of formal 'missions', while others are simply more general threads, or overarching group plots.
- Missions will be mandatory for the characters/teams they apply to. These are threads designed by moderators (sometimes with the help of members), that often directly tie into the main plot of the group. For more information, please click the link.
- You will be expected to roleplay across the group. Please do not roleplay with the same few people every week. Even characters that have never interacted in canon can interact here. Friendships across the various Titans teams, as well as collabs between various villains are encouraged. "Crack" ships between characters that didn't interact in the original canon are also accepted as long as they plausibly make sense in our canon.
- Older members of the group will be appointed to newer members, and will be responsible for starting threads and mentoring the new member for their first month.
Canon
- Have your character act as how they were portrayed in the animated series, the movie, and Teen Titans Go comics (these are the mediums that we consider canon and expect you to have basic knowledge of). Since this roleplay is not rated Y7 as the show is, and your character is likely aged up a bit, their actions can be more mature, but it still must be true to their character.
-Most of the 2004-2008 Teen Titans Go comics are canon to this roleplay. Please be at least minimally familiar with the canon as it pertains to your character. It is advised that you research your character's appearance in these comics before applying to have a good understanding.
You can read the comics here. These comics do not run in a straight timeline, so please look to see which issues have already occurred prior to our plot and where they occurred in the original canon here (WIP, link will be added in the future). In addition, since some of the events occur in the future from our plot, we will expand upon them or possibly alter some of those events as we reach them.
- There is a ‘group canon’ that is created through our roleplaying, planned plots, and inspiration from other DC sources. Therefore, if you apply for a character there may be something planned for them or a moderator may request that you add something to your character’s history. Please check the character list to see if there is anything you should know about your character before applying. Additionally, some missions or main plots may require the use of your character as a plot device.
- Likewise, please be familiar with our current plots.
- The original Teen Titans & New Teen Titans comics that inspired the animated series, the spinoff New Teen Titans chibi shorts, the Teen Titans Go cartoon & accompanying comics, as well as other aspects of the DC Universe are not automatically considered canon in this RPG, but it is encouraged that you take inspiration from them (particularly the 80s comic canon).
- Certain characters can deviate from the source material slightly with permission from mods, as long as it can be made to fit into the story- for example, redeemed characters such as Jinx or Ravager can have a change of heart and return to villainy.
- Canon ships are the default, so please acknowledge them. If you want to tweak those, consult all roleplayers of the characters, make changes accordingly, and still acknowledge that the old relationship occurred. For example, if Jinx is suddenly dating Beast Boy, explain why she is no longer with Kid Flash. Multi-shipping is possible, but needs to have a canon explanation and be discussed with all parties involved (ex. a character is a womanizer, someone cheating, poly relationships, etc).
Writing
- Please follow the rules of grammar and spelling in your threads.
- All RPing is to be done in the 3rd person past tense, with the exclusion of casual chat-based threads.
- We expect your posts to be real writing. No *actions* or script. Please write in full sentences. The exception to this is chatroom or groupchat based RPs, where the focus is dialogue.
- We strive for quality! Use adjectives, adverbs, semicolons… Everything that you would do for an English class should be in your posts. Be descriptive, but not excessive.
- Icons are allowed in threads, but must be used sparingly, and there is a possibility that they may not work properly on the forum.
- ‘Face claims’ and face claim icons are not permitted.
Etiquette
- Generally, what another person’s character does is up to them unless they have given you permission. This may not apply if the character is not currently played by anyone, depending on the character. The extent of this rule varies, depending on the nature of the thread, how the plot is moving along, and how well you know your RP partners. Use your best judgement. Don't be afraid to talk to your RP partners, and moderators if it becomes an issue.
- Remember that even though you know what other characters are doing and thinking at all times, your character does not. No mind-reading (unless that is your character’s power) or having your character suddenly knowing about a private conversation between 2 other characters. Use your judgement, and if you have any questions, ask and discuss.
- Your character is not invincible. This especially applies to the battle system- make sure your responses are reflecting what the dice rolls.
- Please clearly differentiate between in-character and out-of-character. In-character is the default unless otherwise indicated. Common ways of indicating out-of-character text is various brackets {{ [[ (( \ // and marking a post or a portion of a post as ooc.
Planning Threads
- Discuss important plot points (things that will affect future roleplays) with your partners. However, in the case of Missions, some decisions may be decided by one character, or by elements of chance (dice-rolling, coin-flipping) without the need for discussion.
- Ensure both parties are aware of shipping desires. If you think character x is perfect for character y, let your partner know. If they don’t agree, do not force the relationship.
Board Organization
If you're at a loss as to where to post a thread, you can simply place it in the general city board and a moderator will move it to its appropriate place.
-Threads that pertain to multiple character types that are in/near a city should be posted in the general city board, unless there is a specific subboard for the type of thread. For example, an instance of Slade attacking the Titans in the middle of Jump or even at their tower would go into the general board. Likewise, any threads with Hive Academy or Hive 5 characters that takes place in Jump City, would be posted in the Hive Academy board.
Threads that either pertain specifically to interactions between members of a Titans team only (regardless of their location in the city), are to be posted in that Titans Team's subboard. For example, a thread about only the characters of Titans West eating pizza at pizzeria would be posted in the Titans West subboard because it contains an interaction specific to the team only. This is just to keep a tab on team-specific threads.
If a similar thread was done, but it included additional characters (such as characters from other Titans' teams or villains; excluding NPCS), it would be posted in the general Jump City board. Essentially, any threads that contain more than just the core members of the Team would be posted in the general board or the appropriate subboard.
- Threads that do not fit into any of the established boards or subboards can be posted in the Other board. If trends emerge among the threads in that board, other boards may be created to accommodate them.
-Mission threads, like all other threads, are to be done in the appropriate boards based on location. In the Mission board itself will be info about the Missions, and links to the threads involved. When the missions are completed, they will be moved to this board to be archived. For other information about missions please go here.
Future boards for other locations/teams, circumstances, etc. will be added as we go along.
-For organizational purposes, please also apply labels for each character that is going to be in the thread you post. This is similar to tagging each RP partner on Tumblr. To do this, click on the settings wheel when making a post and click 'labels' to apply. A list of all characters we have in the roleplay should appear. Moderators will add new labels as needed.
Threads
-AUs should be clearly marked as such in the title. (Reminder that this will not count towards activity).
- Anything that takes place far in the past from the “present” should be marked as such in the title or description (example; revisiting an old arc to add another thread or expanding upon an old episode plot). Likewise, anything exceptionally far into the future from the current plots should be marked as well. It is okay to jump around the time-line, but we want to make sure that it all makes sense to the best of our abilities!
- Threads should read like a story and each post should ideally progress the story!
Battle System and Mod NPCS
A guide to our system for battles, obstacles, and aspects of Missions is located here. Inspired by tabletop gaming, the system allows an extra element of chance to dictate part of our roleplaying experience.
-Certain Missions may require the use of dice or coin flipping, and a Moderator may reply to a Mission with that information. A Moderator may also roleplay a NPC for a thread. Mod NPC posts may not always be a full 100 words and are simply used to fill in holes, to provide information, or to delegate anything outlined in the battle system guide.
- If a Moderator needs to reply to a thread, they may warn roleplayers by posting a placeholder reply with something like ‘Moderator placeholder, please do not reply yet’. Please respect that and wait until the moderator response replaces the placeholder to post your thread reply. In the case of a moderator NPC/info reply affecting your ability to reply to a thread, this will not be counted against your activity levels.
-If not specified by moderators, and players wish to add in their own elements of chance into various RP situations, they are more than welcome to flip coins or roll dice to help determine the outcome. This is not required in general threads, but definitely encouraged as it adds to the dynamic.
Chatroom-style Threads
Similar to regular threads, but they are quicker, shorter, and done on a chatroom/instant message service. They can count as one of your activity requirements. There is no specific required length for these threads, and they may be ongoing, so use your best judgement.
Skype, Discord, Groupme, and Messenger are downloadable programs that be used for this, whereas there are other services that can be accessed online as well. You may also text if you are comfortable with sharing your number with your roleplay partner.
-------
There are a few ways to go about this form of roleplaying; make sure all roleplayers are on the same page about which format you’re using in a thread.
1) You can have threads with replies that mirror regular thread replies, except in the sense that they do not need to meet a length requirement and you are doing them in a more rapid-pace in a chat program.
OR
2) You can use a more casual chat RP style where the emphasis is placed on dialogue. In Skype and other some other programs, the /me command bolds the following text and adds the username to the front of the message. Example- /me walks down the street becomes ’Starfire walks down the street’. That is where you write actions/feelings/etc, similar to a normal thread, except in present tense and much shorter descriptions.
Messages without a command become speech. Example- ‘Terra: Hey guys! What’s up?’ You may include speech in your /me text in quotation marks (like regular writing) if needed. The purpose of this style is to focus dialogue, not action.
This form may seem lazy, but is quick and efficient when you want to have characters in a quick-paced conversation without focusing excessively on their actions.
OR
3) You may have chats that literally function as if the characters were messaging or texting each other. These may be more continuous or on-going.
___
All chat threads need to be saved, timestamps and ooc conversation edited out (if possible), and then posted on the forum to count towards activity. Skype and other programs can be a pain to scroll through, so you should be saving your chat periodically in a word document or via screenshots.
It is best if you have, at the very least, a vague plot planned out prior to starting your chat thread. This may not apply to IC-messaging threads.
Ooc chat should be kept to a minimum during these threads.
Depending whether your chat RP is formal or informal, you may need to establish a turn cycle like you would for a normal thread.
Adult Content
-NSFW threads are not to be the sole focus of your roleplaying. Our main priority at TTRPG is plot.
-NSFW icons in threads are not allowed. General visual pornography is not allowed on the forum either.
- Any triggering material (extreme gore, sexual, etc.) needs to listed in the title or in the first post of the thread (if you are not the owner of the thread, please ask a mod to do this), and put under a spoiler cut.
-Other adult content may be discussed among members privately, but not directly on the forums. Please refer to OOC rules for more information.
