The roar of her motorcycle’s engine was deafening as it tore out of the parking garage. She purposefully avoided telling the rest of her team where she was going, only letting them know she would be out for a few hours. And with their once dead teammate showing up at their front door, ‘out’ was a good enough explanation.
They had bigger things to worry about than worrying bout where she was going at the moment. Had they known, they would have tried to stop her. Which was why she’d specifically made sure to pop out the gps chip in her communicator before she left. Where she was going, she didn’t need them to follow. This wasn’t about the team, not really. No, this was personal.
The Kawasaki’s engine had lulled to a low hum before she parked it in the alley behind her true destination. How unbecoming this sleepy little neighborhood looked. Just like any other modern day suburbia filled with cookie cutter houses. If only they knew the monster they had living among them, perfectly hidden within plain sight.
Rather than using the front door, Rose had opted to hop the back fence. Didn’t really matter which way she came in, his cameras would pick her up either way. He probably knew from the moment she rounded the corner that she was coming. The was no surprising him.
She slid the key into its lock in what appeared to be the basement, throwing back the double doors before descending down the long flight of stairs. Fitting, all things considered. Straight down into hell. Rose stood firm in her place when she reached the final landing. Her icy gaze from her single blue eye settled on him, though his back was to her.
“Slade. We need to talk.”

Before his daughter so presumptuously invaded his home, he had been making arrangements to leave Jump City for awhile. He had an assignment out of the states planned with some Eastern European politicians and he really needed to brush up on his Russian and Ukrainian.
At her words, he waved his hand over the monitors closing the files on screen. “Do we, my dear? Because last I recall you said you needed nothing from me. You made that abundantly clear.” He lingered on the words, looking over his shoulder at her.
“So what made you feel so benevolent as to come address me without invitation,” he hardly asked finally turning to face her, “but with plenty of warning.” Slade smirked, unamused by her presence interrupting his work and unimpressed by her grandiose entrance that was less than conspicuous.
Whatever she had to say, he didn’t much care. Slade was not in the slightest curious and didn’t care as the whole thing would probably be a waste of his time one way or another.

His frigid demeanor is textbook, so much so that it hardly even phases her anymore. Even when she was younger, Slade had never been one for lingering sentiment. How many years she spent chasing his approval, hoping it would lead to genuine affection. A foolish, naive hope long since extinguished.
Fingernails bit into the flesh of her arms as he continued to let into her. Even just being under this roof again had her stomach in knots. Tempting as it might be to snap at him, she knows that he’s baiting her and doing so would only prove him right. And how much she hated that smug grin of his. Even behind his mask, she could see it.
‘Cut the crap,’ she growls once he’s finished. ‘ Don’t play stupid with me, Slade. We both know you better than that. I don’t know what kind of devil you made a deal with, but this has your name written all over it. Do me a favor for once, please, and be honest with me. No tricks, no cryptic answers, just the truth.’
She exhales, trying her best not to let her emotions get the best of her. ‘ What are you planning with her? I know she can’t be back by coincidence. Or did you just send her to screw things up for me? Couldn’t stand the thought of your own daughter working with the enemy, could you? Is that why you brought Terra back? Tell me.’

Slade scoffed inaudibly at her act, he didn’t enjoy this as much as she pretended he did. She feared him and fear was a better option than her idolizing him for many many reasons.
“Excuse me young lady, but you are still in my house,” he shot back, “and I will not be spoken to like this.”
Slade removed his mask, “Besides, you want the truth?” He let his words settle into the silence created between them, taking a step towards her, “The truth is I didn’t know Terra was alive. Or that she had been ‘brought back’, was it? Shockingly I’m not planning anything. But more than that, Rose, you’ve just revealed a very good hand to your enemy.”
Terra was a mistake, a good idea gone awry, and a very rude awakening. But more than anything she was a threat to his own mortality. To first assume he had anything to do with a return of Terra was laughable. No one returned from death twice and who knows what she would do to him if she saw him again.
He closed the feet between them before speaking again. “I recommend you go back to the Titans and maybe not tell them about this error in your judgement.”
